Mesquite ISD has been a long time partner with the American Heart Association and champions the importance of heart healthy living and awareness of heart disease - the leading cause of death in America for men and women. Last year the Mesquite ISD ranked No. 1 in the SouthWest Affiliate in support of National Wear Red Day. Approximately 700 staff and students donated over $22,000 to the mission of the GO RED campaign.

SURVIVOR STORY
My name is Marcus Hamilton and I am 11 years old. When I was born my parents and family found out that I had a hole in my heart. When I was 8 months old I had my first surgery. During that surgery the doctors fixed the hole in my heart. About 6 years later I had a second heart surgery and this time the doctors had to replace my valve. I still might have to have another surgery when I grow up.

Next school year I will be going into Middle School and will get to play football. This will be the first time that I will play sports and I am excited now that I am healthy.

I have done Jump Rope For Heart since Kindergarten and most of the time I was the top fundraiser. I feel that the more money I can raise for the American Heart Association, the better technology there will be for other kids with sick hearts!
